Ink on vellum with string & fish hooks

This installation explores the development of New England’s history with text written on the paper boats from the sermon “Model of Christian Charity” by John Winthrop, delivered to the pilgrims as they embarked to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Each boat also has the name and dates lost of one of the 270 shipwrecks off New England’s coast from the last 400 years.
