The hollow spheres are made from paper pulp and PVA glue. The inside of the spheres are coated with wax except for a small area in the bottom. The spheres are each filled with the same amount of ink. The ink slowly seeps through the exposed part of the paper pulp shell, staining the shell and dripping onto the bed of salt below. The process gradually creates drawings of the black ink and the white salt.
